Social Media Withdraws?

Hi everyone!

I feel SO lost. I thought I would be able to blog over my break, but every time I thought, "I need to write a blog" I got a little afraid, and I felt...well, an aversion to my blog. I didn't even want to type in the URL and look at it.

WHY?!

I really cannot answer this myself. At times I think maybe I feel overwhelmed. I have a full-time job, school, I try to workout almost everyday, and write. These things take up all my time. When I was in my undergrad studies and I didn't have a job for a semester, I blogged. And let me tell you, as you all might know, being a full-time blogger (you know, visiting, commenting, and the like--it takes SO much time).

Now I feel out of the loop. I feel like reentering this wold is something I want so desperately, but now I'm afraid of it. I understand hiatuses. But I don't want one. I want to jump right back in, post regularly about my writing.

I should probably keep a schedule, write blog posts on the weekends. This feeling isn't limited to my blog either--it's on Twitter, too. I use Facebook regularly so I haven't fallen off the bandwagon there. lol.

Anyone have suggestions? What can I do to get out of this funk? :(

  1. Blogging is difficult especially when writing, I am finishing up the first round professional edits for my first book whilst trying to come up with an idea for my seventh WIP, what I realize is that blogging and writing is the same in the sense an idea will have to be really strong for the effort to be there, when I blog I have to think hard on a topic because checking the blogsphere many writers talk about the same topic, so my niche is personalizing my writing experiences so it doesn't read like an article or a mixture of different research, but if you want to make your blogging more of a schedule organizing it on a calendar is an idea which you can also include the days you'll write or edit hope my suggestions help, happy writing.

    1. Thanks for the help, Keisha! I agree--sometimes I feel like I'm not being unique. I've thought on topics I could blog about and I think I have thought of something unique enough that I can be excited about! :)

  2. Sometimes blogging is a pain in the neck. It eats away so much time. But then, it's fun too... and addictive. I've tried to make it easier by having the weekly Grammar Friday and joining the same blog hop every Saturday (one that doesn't take much time.) And the rest, I let come as it may, trying to convince myself there's no pressure (not that this always works). Just don't let yourself feel like you HAVE to post. Never. Because other things are more important.

    1. I was SO addicted back in May of last year. It was so much fun but I also had the TIME. I miss having time. lol. I need to find more blog hops. I do enjoy those! Thank you for your help!

  3. I think the others gave good advice. :)
It doesn't seem to be uncommon for people to drift in and out of blogging to some extent. Just like other things, you'll probably find yourself get back into the swing of it naturally when you have more time.

  4. My only other suggestion is, while I don't know how often you blogged before, maybe just post once a week. I have similar issues with time and lately have been feeling bad because I'm not getting around to other blogs as much as I used to. However, there's only so much time in a day, so we do what we can. I started out blogging once a week, then moved to twice. The only reason I'm able to do twice a week, though, is because Friday is funny photo day. It's kind of a cheat post, but people like it and I like it! At least know you're not alone with the conundrum of having a life and being a writer. :)

    1. I think I will try and post once a week! As long as I have my presence, I think I won't feel so bad, lol. Thanks, Lara!

  5. Make a schedule, even just once a week, to get back in the grove. And be sure you are posting about something that excites you, or you won't want to do it.
Blogging does take time. (Trust me - I know!) You just have to find your balance with it.

  6. When I think of the blog as a must do, it overwhelms me. When I think of it as a place to just do whatever I want, whenever I want...then I'm back in love.
Just relax and have fun with it!

I am prepping a new post in my head (or rather, a series), and I am very excited about it! I think this will allow me to have fun with blogging again and love it again. Thanks Elizabeth!

  7. I agree with the others, and I'll also say that actual writing time usually excites me far more than sitting down to do a blog entry. So, whenever that happens...I always go with the writing. :)

It's okay to do very short posts or not hold to a perfect schedule. It's okay to only do once a week (or even just a few times a month). It's also okay to feel burned out now and then, and need to take some time away.

  8. Greetings from the IWSG! I had the same exact issue as you did last semester: school, work, exercise, writing. In an effort to keep up with posting, I limited my blog entries to around 500 words. Keeping them short and sweet really helped!

  9. I'm too addicted to blogging to leave it behind. I feel like it needs to be a genuine thing, so don't push yourself. We'll still be around when the time comes :)

  10. What helps me get back into blogging after a long way away is to do one of the memes out there - like Road Trip Wednesday or Top Ten Tuesday. That way, you don't have to think of a topic yourself :)

    1. I haven't thought of memes before (except those you get tagged in). I could totally do that! Thanks, Stephanie! It is easier to be told what to do, lol.

  11. I am right there with you! I need to blog BLERG. haha! I've written reminders in my planner to blog (and then crossed them out days later) because it's just not happening. I will now read all the comments for anybody else's ideas (haha).
