So, I'm editing my novel once again.
I'm just wondering when I'll feel like it's close to perfect. You know, that perfect all the agents talk about. Especially when my eyes have scanned it so many times, I really don't see some mistakes. I was going to work on my third book over the Summer, and I probably will, but not as much as I had hoped. I think, instead, I will focus on my first book and editing it over and over again until it's as 'perfect' as I can get it. Along with that and the overhaul of my query, maybe I can find some representation? lol. It's a nice thought, isn't it? Especially when graduation is a year away. Rawr.

Anyways, here's Aladdin:

And here's mine, haha:

Just imagine Aladdin with a little beard.

  1. Aw I like how you added Aladdin with a beard :D

Anyway, I just stared rewriting the first chapter of The Aviation Waltz, and this is probably the forth major revision. Sadly, no cats this time, haha.

It's really hard to look at your own work subjectively because the creator's eyes usually glaze over any flaws--even if they are a perfectionist, I think. I guess the best way to get toward the "perfect" manuscript is to have a bunch of people read it and apply feedback toward improving the manuscript. Of course, you can't apply everything, because somewhere along the line you might lose the charm that you once had.

Anyway, good luck again :D And try to always have fun with editing. That's why write, isn't it? For fun? Writing shouldn't feel like work, as torturous as it is sometimes.

  2. Aww, I like your advice! I agree! I think I feel like I fail at editing sometimes, because I have to do it over and over, though we all have too. Also, I usually am one of those people who will edit and think "I need to change this" but I don't know how at the moment, so I move on. That's probably where this edit (I'm not sure how many I've done, lol) is coming from.

  3. Oooh your Alladin is a doll! He looks just like him!

I wish I could see the end in sight with my rewrites. All I seem to do these days is rewrite and revise then rinse and repeat. Ugh. I so desperately want to dive into something new.

Good luck with your revisions :)

  4. Aww! Thanks! :)

Yeah, I'll edit something and then not look at it for about...idk...a few months. That's why it takes me forever. I also have been busy with school! Ugh. But that ends Friday, and then Summer!

I'm sure you'll get through it! You seem more dedicated to revision than me. lol.

  5. LOL, cute :)

Have you had betas read your work Ashley? That always helps me when I'm crosseyed from reading and totally incapable of seeing anything to fix, or seeing how to fix it.

Oh, and sorry! I'm new here! Found you through Kayeleen's blog!

  6. I've heard of betas but I'm afraid I don't know much about it. How do you begin?
And don't apologize! I'm so glad you posted!!! :))

  7. Aladdin with a beard cracks me up.

I would definitely suggest beta readers or a couple really thorough critique partners :D

I have a post here about Crit Partners and where to find them.

  8. Ohh! Thank you Lori. I think I might try the YALIT one, definitely!

  9. I had to pop over & visit this post, because it has a pic of Aladdin in it :) LOVE that movie.
